🔸 Nine in 10 Malaysian employees surveyed want upskilling opportunities from their employers
More than two in five Malaysians (44%) believe their skills have become more relevant during the pandemic, according to H2 2021 data from Randstad's Workmonitor survey. This is the highest in the region, with Singapore and Hong Kong trailing respectively at 21%, and 17%.
Employees are looking for ups killing opportunities from their employers, without which, they may dive back into the job market, as close to two in five (38.6%) surveyed have switched employers in the last six months (H2 2021).

🔸 Malaysia urges firms to return to WFH arrangements
The Malaysian government is calling on businesses to return to work-from-home arrangements where possible to curb the spread of COVID-19 cases. The health ministry noted that the current infectious rate of COVID-19 in the country is higher, and most likely caused by the Omicron variant.

🔸 Malaysia’s most in-demand jobs in 2022
The ongoing Covid-19 crisis has forced both business organizations and talents alike to pivot and navigate a new way of life. With pandemic lockdowns dramatically changing the job landscape, the work modes, efficiency, and overall employment in almost all industries across Malaysia are following suit too. In the new normal, most are now relying on the advancement of technology to sustain work remotely or to keep businesses running.

🔸 Malaysia's MYFutureJobs portal recorded 11,846 job opportunities with a salary of RM5,000 and above
The Ministry of Human Resources shared that from 1 January 2020 to 18 February 2022, there are 3.88mn job vacancies in MYFutureJobs, of which 431,989 are still available.
There is a total of 11,846 job opportunities in emerging sectors recorded from 1 January 2022 to 24 February 2022, and the jobs are offering salaries of between RM5,000, and RM10,000 and above (per month).

🔸 Malaysia sees the lowest unemployment rate in Q4 2021 since the arrival of the pandemic
Department of Statistics, Malaysia (DOSM) has shared findings of the Labour Market Review, Fourth Quarter 2021, with the highlight that the local labour market regained momentum towards recovery in Q4 2021, as seen in the surging demand for labour as well as the lowest unemployment rate since the arrival of the pandemic to the nation.

🔸 Malaysia moots Bill that could make gig workers formal employees
In a first of its kind, the federal government will debate on an amendment Bill that could redefine the relationship of gig workers and tech companies.
The landmark Bill could potentially lead to tech companies which employ gig workers to accord the latter with rights and privileges enjoyed by formal staff.

🔸 Improving the management of foreign workers
The Human Resources Ministry has proposed the implementation of e-Wages as a salary monitoring system and to make available centralised accommodation for foreign workers in the country.
This is widely seen as a move to improve the management of foreign workers and has received the assent of the Federal Cabinet on Jan 12 this year.
While the e-Wages initiative will be implemented soon to monitor prompt payment of wages to foreign workers, the ministry has another initiative on housing.
